🗺️ New Feature: The FrankAwareness Convictions Map

At FrankAwareness we are always looking for new ways to make the data easier to explore, understand, and visualise.

Today we’re introducing a powerful new feature to the site — the UK Child Sexual Offence Convictions Map.

This interactive map allows visitors to see the geographic spread of recorded convictions across the United Kingdom. Each pin represents a case logged within the FrankAwareness convictions index.

Why Build a Convictions Map?

The convictions index provides structured records of court outcomes, including defendant names, locations, court details, and source links. While monthly pages and archive lists are useful for research, they do not always show the geographical scale of the issue clearly.

The new map changes that.

Instead of only scrolling through case lists, readers can now visually explore where convictions have been recorded. Patterns become easier to spot, including regional clusters, concentrations around major population areas, and the wider spread of offending across the UK.

The purpose is not sensationalism, but context, visibility, and awareness.

What the Map Shows

Each marker represents a recorded conviction within the FrankAwareness database.

The map is powered by the same structured dataset used throughout the convictions index, meaning each pin is tied to a documented case entry within the wider archive.

As the archive continues to expand, the map will grow with it.

Over time, the map will help show:
  • The geographic spread of child sexual offence convictions
  • How cases cluster across towns, cities, and regions
  • The scale of offending reflected in recorded court outcomes

A Growing Archive

Like the main convictions index, the map is an evolving dataset.

FrankAwareness began building its structured archive in January 2026, while progressively standardising earlier years and integrating cases recorded since 2022.

That means the map reflects cases currently logged within the archive. It is an expanding public-awareness tool, not yet a complete record of every UK conviction.

As more verified entries are added and more historic years are fully integrated, the map will continue to become stronger, richer, and more useful.

Source Transparency

Every entry shown on the map comes from the same sourcing structure used across FrankAwareness.

Cases are logged using publicly available information such as police press releases, recognised media reporting, CPS updates, and verified community safeguarding sources where appropriate.

Transparency remains central to the project, and each case remains traceable through the wider index.

Why This Matters

Child sexual offence convictions are often reported one case at a time. When the data is brought together visually, a broader picture begins to emerge.

The convictions map helps readers understand the scale, spread, and frequency of recorded cases across the country.

It is another step toward the core goal of FrankAwareness: documenting the data, increasing awareness, and supporting safeguarding through transparency.
